Access and getting here

The benefice sits either side of the A303 between Andover and Salisbury. Grateley has a railway station on the line between Salisbury and Basingstoke, which is a short walk from St Leonard's. There is no regular bus that serves all six villages.

Parking is on the street or in the churchyard at most of our churches. Grateley has ample parking on site. Monxton is the hardest to find: follow the winding path through the restored Memorial Gates, opposite the Monxton and Amport Village Hall.

What a service is like

It depends which church you choose, and that is deliberate. Amport has a robed choir and an anthem; Monxton is guitar and keyboard led; Quarley keeps the Book of Common Prayer; the Wallops run family services with young children in mind. None of them is long. Most last around an hour, and the family services about forty-five minutes.

Come as you are. Nobody dresses up especially, nobody minds if a child makes a noise, and nobody will mind if you would rather not join in.

If you have brought children

Family services are built around them. At other services children are still very welcome, and there is no need to take a crying baby outside on our account.

Visiting a grave

The churchyards are open at all times. If you are looking for a particular grave and cannot find it, ring the Rector or, at Over Wallop, Stephen Baldock, who looks after the churchyard records.

Hearing loops, toilets and opening hours

The churches are generally open from 9am to 4pm. St Peter's at Over Wallop is sometimes locked earlier, especially in winter.

Hearing loops are working at St Peter's in Over Wallop, St Andrew's in Nether Wallop, and St Mary's in Amport.

Toilets are at two of the six only: at Amport, adjoining the church, and at Over Wallop, in the church hall nearby. Amport also has step-free access, parking and baby changing. If you need to know anything else before you set out, ring the Rector on 07538 595537 and she will find out for you.

This website aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. If you find something here you cannot use, please tell us and we will fix it. See policies.

If someone has died, ring at any hour

You do not need to be a churchgoer, and there is no cost to asking.
