The Benefice Choir

The Benefice Choir sings on request in churches all around the benefice, including the anthem at Amport's Communion on the second Sunday, and robed for Choral Evensong there on the fourth. It rehearses at Amport on Thursdays from 7 to 8pm.

New members are always welcome, and you do not need to read music to start. Ask for Julie Davis, who directs the choir.

Bell ringing

Practice is on Wednesdays at St Peter's, Over Wallop, where Jamie Biles is Tower Captain. Ringing is a craft rather than a musical skill, and it is learned by doing; if you have ever wondered, this is an invitation.

Every tower here is different. Over Wallop has five bells; Monxton and Grateley have two each. Quarley has no tower at all: its bells hang in a cradle beside the church and are rung by cords pulled from inside the vestry.

The range across the six

Music at a wedding or a funeral

The choir and the ringers are both available for weddings, and often for funerals. These are arranged separately from the statutory fees and are set by each PCC, so ask when you are planning. See weddings.
