Giving to the benefice

Six medieval and Victorian buildings, six churchyards, and a ministry across eight miles of countryside. None of it is funded by the state.

Every parish is responsible for its own building and for its share of the cost of ministry across the diocese. Regular giving, however small, is far more useful than an occasional gift, because it lets a PCC plan rather than react.

The Parish Giving Scheme

This is the simplest way to give regularly. You set up a Direct Debit with the scheme, choose your parish, and it handles the Gift Aid and passes the money to the PCC each month. You can increase or stop it whenever you like, and you can remain anonymous to the parish if you prefer.

St Peter's, Over Wallop and St Mary's, Monxton are on the scheme. Find your parish on the Parish Giving Scheme. For the other four, a standing order is the simplest route for now.

Standing order

A standing order straight to the PCC account works just as well, and costs the parish nothing in fees. Ask the treasurer of the parish you want to support and they will give you the details.

Gift Aid

If you pay UK income or capital gains tax, Gift Aid adds 25p to every pound you give, at no cost to you. It applies to one-off gifts as well as regular ones. There are envelopes and forms in each church.

Leaving a gift in your will

A legacy is how many of these buildings have survived. Gifts for the general purposes of a parish are the most useful, because they can be spent where the need is greatest, but gifts restricted to music, conservation, restoration, children or mission are welcome too. A gift can be acknowledged publicly or kept entirely anonymous, whichever you would prefer.

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7
