Dial 999 and speak to the police. Do not wait to speak to anyone in the church first.
The parishes of the Portway and Danebury Benefice are committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officers, PSOs. The Diocese of Winchester's safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Manager (DSM) who advise our PSOs.
If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm, please contact your Parish Safeguarding Officer below. Or the DSM, Mrs Jackie Rowlands, at jackie.rowlands@winchester.anglican.org or 01962 737317, or at the out of hours number for Hampshire Children's Services, 0300 555 1373. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police on 999 and your local authority's children or adult social care services.

If you would rather not speak to the church
That is entirely reasonable, and there are independent routes:
- Safe Spaces, a free and independent support service for anyone abused through their relationship with the Church: 0300 303 0476.
- NSPCC helpline: 0808 800 5000.
- Hampshire adult social care, or the police on 101 when it is not an emergency.
Our policy
Each PCC adopts the Church of England's Promoting a Safer Church policy annually, and our practice follows the House of Bishops' guidance. Those who work with children or vulnerable adults are recruited safely, trained, and DBS checked where the role requires it.
